Narrow Hallway Decorating Inspiration

Get Organised!

No matter how big or small your home, there’s always mountains of shoes and coats which need to be stored and if they are out of sight, then it will help in making a small, narrow hallway appear bigger. There are lots of different options to help with this, from bespoke under stair cupboards to shoe shelving and storage drawers. If you can keep the hallway clutter free buy using built-in furniture, this will stop the flow from being interrupted.

Boost organisation with a small console which has designated storage for keys and purses and there’s always the option to have a row of hooks for coats and hats.

Using A Mirror

Mirrors are a great way of making a small space appear more spacious. Hang a large mirror on a wall opposite a window or very near one to reflect the outdoors which in turn will broaden the feel of your room. Also, having a mirror in the hallway is also handy for that last minute appearance check before leaving the house!

Lighting

A simple trick to work with a narrow hallway is to create a focal point in the space. One way of doing this is by having a statement light, which could be a chandelier or oversized pendants to draw the eye upwards. This will add a touch of drama and style to the space but it’s important to consider the height and scale of your hallway before selecting your lighting options.

Painting Your Door

There’s generally a lot of deliberating when it comes to the colour of your front door, but what about the back of your front door?! You can make this a real talking point in your hallway and don’t forget, when you think about it, the inside of your front door is one of the first things you see when you enter your home and it’s also one of the last things you see when you leave.

Decorate The Floor

You don’t have to feel like the décor should be minimized, just because the space is! A narrow long rug can make the space more elongated and it can also cover dark flooring which can make the space seem oppressive. One option would be to go for a large patterned floor to create a classic but comtemporary look. Smaller patterns will appear too busy for a more confined area like the hall, so go big and bold. A diamond pattern will generally make an area feel wider. Alternatively, a bright or colourful rug can be a way of tackling the floor and a much more cost effective option than replacing it entirely.
